  • Shiny, black berries are great for making jelly & wine
  • Edible fruit is astringent, and is high in antioxidants
  • If left, berries can persist into winter and attract birds
  • Fruit ripens in mid-September
  • Fruit lasts on shrub for 3-4 weeks after ripening
  • Self fertile; will produce more fruit with a pollinator
  • Ground Hug Chokeberry is an option for cross pollination
  • Plant pollinators within 200’ or less, closer is better
  • Produces fruit approximately 2-3 years after planting
  • Clusters of showy white flowers bloom in late May
  • Sold more often as an ornamental than for its fruit
  • Glossy, dark green summer foliage turns an intense red in fall
  • Great substitute for chokecherry; similar flavour, less invasive & immune to black knot
  • Fall colour makes this a great substitute for Dwarf Amur Maple and Winged Burning Bush, cold hardier than both
