- Prune only after leaves have come out; may bleed sap in early spring or late fall - Tolerates clay & sandy soil - Does not tolerate soggy soil or drought - Requires even moisture & well drained soil - Additional watering recommended during dry seasons - Birch benefit from bark mulch, keeping the roots moist and cooler
