- Dark green, lobed foliage turns deep purple, then bright red in fall
- Abundant bright red seed pods develop in August, turn beige in September, hold through winter & drop in spring
- Summer & fall interest; great for a feature tree in a yard
- Trimmed to be an upright, single stem tree
- Helicopter seeds have a low germination rate in spring due to cold winter temperatures
- Naturally grows as a multi-stem tree
- Hardiest of the red maples
- Can be tapped for syrup
- Medium Growth Rate (12-14”/yr)
- Row spacing: minimum 8-10’ apart
- Root space: plant at least 10-15’ from foundations
- Life expectancy: 40-50 years
