Pear, "Navigator"
Pyrus x 'DurPSN302'
This hardy pear variety is ornamental, and columnar in shape with gold-orange to red fall colour. The tree will be nearly fruitless unless grown with another type of pear, and if it does produce, the fruit is only suitable for wildlife.

Swiss Stone is a very hardy, compact, upright evergreen. Grows fairly slowly. It produces pine nuts that are edible.

Plum "Brookgold"
Prunus x 'Brookgold'
This 3-4 cm plum has golden yellow flesh, is free stone, and has a tender skin. In spring the flowers are white and scented. They ripen a little earlier than other plums, around mid-August, and are good eating fresh or for processing. The Fall leaf colour is orange.

Plum "Brookred"
Prunus x 'Brookred'
This variety produces 3-4 cm dark red fruit good for fresh eating or processing. Scented, beautiful white flowers bloom in spring and leaves turn orange-red in the fall.

Prunus x 'Pembina'
Pembina has large beautiful scented white flowers in spring, and the leaves turn orange red in the fall. It produces 2” diameter, dark red fruit that have firm skin and sweet yellow flesh. The tree is very hardy and productive. Fruit ripen mid- to late-August and are good for fresh eating or processing.

Plum, "Queen of Hearts"
Large red fruit, similar to Pembina. Recently rediscovered in Manitoba. White blooms and orangey fall colour. Hardy and attracts bees.

Poplar, "Assiniboine"
Populus x 'Assiniboine'
The Assiniboine is great for a shelterbelt - extreme hardiness down to -60C. It can have issues on high pH soils, but otherwise tolerates our Manitoba conditions quite well. Relatively fast growth rate, around 2' - 3' per year; while it does not grow as quickly, it is a bit wider and is more thickly branched than Prairie Sky Poplar.

Poplar, "Guardian"
Populus x 'JefGuard'
"Guardian" was developed in Manitoba to replace Tower Poplars - Guardian is highly resistant to bronze leaf disease. Narrow and upright, it makes an excellent privacy screen for tight spaces. This is a seedless poplar, so it's not as messy as some other varieties.
