Flowering Crab, "Jan Kuperus"
Malus 'Jan Kuperus'
A Dutch nurseryman discovered this impressive flowering crab in his Alberta tree farm; reaching nearly 40'x30', you can only imagine how beautiful it is when it is covered in pink flowers at the end of May! The small, dark purple fruit persists on the tree into the winter when the birds need it to survive - so there are no messy piles of apples on the ground in fall.

Linden, "American" (Basswood, American)
Tilia americana
A favorite shade tree in our area! The American Linden holds a uniform broad pyramidal shape, with dark green heart shaped leaves, and small fragrant flowers in July. In the fall the leaves will turn to a soft yellow. Small insignificant seeds are produced in the fall but it is rare for them to germinate and they are not messy. A slow grower to start but once it is established the growth rate is 1-1.5’ per year. Life span of 60-80 years

Plant Care: 
Susceptible to Linden Leaf Gall (small bumps or nodules on leaves) but this is harmless to tree. To reduce galls, clean up leaves and dead branches in fall.

Tilia x flavescens 'Dropmore'
A cross between Little Leaf and American, this Linden has good disease-resistance. It may be susceptible to Linden Leaf Gall (bumps or nodules on leaves) but this is harmless to the tree. The leaves are dark green and heart-shaped. Fragrant small flowers bloom in July. Life span 60-80 years with a growth rate of 1.5’ per year

Tear drop shape. Exfoliating bark. Best fall color (buttery yellow). Flowers in early July, attracts birds and bees. Making tea from flowers is becoming popular. Fresh leaves are edible. Slower growing.
