Thuja occidentalis 'Nigra'
This is a selection of our native Manitoban cedar; lush, soft, dark green foliage adorns this rounded pyramidal tree. It makes a nice yard tree or privacy hedge, and grows ~12" per year with adequate moisture.
Plant Care:
•Prefers a moist, well-drained location; even moisture with some afternoon sunshine protection in winter is helpful
•The best locations to plant cedars are northern or eastern sides of buildings, which help retain moisture and prevent drying out from the hot afternoon sun - mulch is very beneficial
•Water cedars 2 - 3 times per week during warm, dry weather while it is establishing
•Avoid purchasing deeply discounted Emerald Green cedars - they are not hardy to most sites in Manitoba
