Cedar, "Eastern Dark"
Thuja occidentalis 'Nigra'
This is a selection of our native Manitoban cedar; lush, soft, dark green foliage adorns this rounded pyramidal tree. It makes a nice yard tree or privacy hedge, and grows ~12" per year with adequate moisture.

Plant Care: 
•Prefers a moist, well-drained location; even moisture with some afternoon sunshine protection in winter is helpful
•The best locations to plant cedars are northern or eastern sides of buildings, which help retain moisture and prevent drying out from the hot afternoon sun - mulch is very beneficial
•Water cedars 2 - 3 times per week during warm, dry weather while it is establishing
•Avoid purchasing deeply discounted Emerald Green cedars - they are not hardy to most sites in Manitoba

Little Giant is a dwarf cedar with a tight, compact ball form and rich green foliage. Keeps a great shape and does not need pruning. It grows 2"-4” per year.

Cedar, "Skybound"
Thuja occidentalis 'Skybound'
This cedar is almost identical to the Brandon cedar except that it is more winter hardy and has less chance of getting winter burn. It has a beautiful upright form, and makes an attractive year-round hedge, or a focal point in a shrub bed.

Woodward is uniform and ball-shaped with dense foliage, growing 6" - 10” per year. An excellent way to add green to a shady spot.

The golden glow of this cedar is a nice contrast to the standard green. Hardy inside fenced or hedged yards. It has a medium growth rate (5"-10" per year).
