Saskatoon, "Nelson"
Has large fruit that is 1 cm across, dark purple in colour, and will ripen in July. Nelson has fewer seeds and a nice tangy flavour. The plant has white blooms in spring, flowering 3-7 days later than other cultivars, which helps avoid late spring frost; its fall colour is orange-red. Saskatoons are also known to have a life span of 50 years and are a very hardy fruit for our prairies!

Amelanchier alnifolia 'Smoky'
Smoky is a heavy producer with medium-sized fruit clusters. The fruit is dark purple in colour, and will ripen in July. This tall shrub has white blooms in spring and an orange/red fall colour. Saskatoons are also known to have a life span of 50 years and are a very hardy fruit for our prairies.

Hippophae rhamnoides 'Hikul'
This compact, dense shrub is covered in silvery leaves, which are held on the shrub until November. It is drought-tolerant and hardy, and makes an excellent contrast plant.

Smokebush, "Royal Purple"
Cotinus coggygria 'Royal Purple'
This stunning shrub has purple leaves with red veins, creating a unique and eye-catching contrast. Flowers bloom in mid summer until frost and are almost smoke-like sprays of pinkish purple. It loves the heat; is an excellent plant for the south side of a house. The shrub needs a very cozy spot as it is not very hardy for our area; however although it may experience some die back it, normally survives well if sheltered from the wind.

The hardiest of the tall white spireas. Arching branches are covered with white flowers for a couple of weeks in early June, leaves will turn orange/red in the fall. Growth rate is 6-10” per year. .

Spiraea japonica 'Mertyann'
The shrub has bright gold foliage and is covered with bright pink flowers for summer and fall. Fall color is pinkish red. Foliage is thicker and fuller than other gold varieties, and growth rate is 6-10” per year.

Spirea, "False Sem"
Sorbaria x 'Sem'
This is the dwarf version of False Spirea. It has a very fern-like appearance with white plume-like flowers, blooming later in the season. False Spirea has an excellent fern-like appearance and is tolerant of shade and all soil types, and grows 1' - 1.5' per year. An excellent companion to globe cedars or hostas.
